The Thorn Extratour - Fully concentrated ° The boy tries to grasp the thorn in the sole of his foot with his thumb and forefinger. He seems to have just sat down and started trying to pull out the thorn, or we are already in the middle of his renewed attempts. ° He is completely focused on it. ° Whether and when he will succeed remains an open question. ° The original of this bronze sculpture was probably not excavated, but has been “above ground” since it was created. ° Originally owned by the papacy, it was donated to the city of Rome by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471. Under Napoleon in Paris, the sculpture has been back in Rome since 1917. ° The dating is difficult to establish clearly: Greek original 3rd century BC, Roman copy 1st century BC. ° The sculpture shown is a plaster cast that can be seen in the Museum of Casts of Classical Sculptures in Munich. ° This state museum is dedicated to bringing ancient sculptures closer to a wider audience. Instead, we wanted to offer inspiration on how to celebrate a wedding in a deeply personal way. In our little fictional scenario, the bride and groom are creative minds who love the aesthetics and symbolism of classic art but wanted their wedding to be anything but conventionally classical. They have no hesitation in choosing a venue that aligns with their passions, nor in making this place their own by doing what they like, or in being their authentic, edgy selves in a setting that typically encourages people to conform and be quiet. Der Guss der Einzelteile und die Farbfassung wurden etwa 1888 in Paris für einen Amerikanischen Milliardär hergestellt. Das Modell ging wenig später an das New Yorker Metropolitan Museum of Art, die es nach einigen Jahrzehnten aber aussortiert haben und an die Münchner Abgußsammlung abgaben. Bereits in Amerika wurde das Modell mehrfach notdürftig repariert und leider auch außenseitig komplett überfasst.
