A visit to the Museum for Casts of Classical Sculptures Munich @das_abgussmuseum. And that’s what we did today and it was one hell of a insightful, fascinating and fun day. The current exhibition celebrates the museum’s 150th anniversary and focuses on the history, techniques and styles of plaster and bronze casts of predominantly classical sculptures. He seems to have just sat down and started trying to pull out the thorn, or we are already in the middle of his renewed attempts. ° He is completely focused on it. ° Whether and when he will succeed remains an open question. ° The original of this bronze sculpture was probably not excavated, but has been “above ground” since it was created. ° Originally owned by the papacy, it was donated to the city of Rome by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471. Under Napoleon in Paris, the sculpture has been back in Rome since 1917. ° The dating is difficult to establish clearly: Greek original 3rd century BC, Roman copy 1st century BC. ° The sculpture shown is a plaster cast that can be seen in the Museum of Casts of Classical Sculptures in Munich. ° This state museum is dedicated to bringing ancient sculptures closer to a wider audience. Dann hat er erst einmal gelacht. "Warum wollen Sie sich denn den Stress bitte antun?!" - Ich musste nicht lange überlegen: "Ich möchte mir nicht mit 70 denken: "Ach, hätte ich das mal gemacht", in Erinnerung schwelgen, es bereuen, ein seniler Seniorenstudent werden und dann in einem Seniorenstudium mich nur berieseln lassen. Ich will es wissen! Ich will es machen und deshalb möchte ich mich JETZT bewerben. JETZT bin ich fit, in der Materie und habe die Möglichkeiten das Studium voll auszukosten." Er nickte nur, schmunzelte und stellte mir die Zulassungsbescheinigung aus. Zwei Jahre später kann ich sagen, dass es die beste Entscheidung war. Ich habe meine Zeit nicht verschwendet. Ich konnte mir noch einmal Zeit nehmen, mich mit Dingen zu beschäftigen, die mich interessieren. Das kann mir keiner mehr nehmen. Ich habe neue Freundschaften geschlossen und durfte eine neue Wissenschaft und Denkweise kennenlernen. Das Studium ist ein Kampf. Es gibt viele Momente, da möchte man nicht mehr. Alles erscheint unerreichbar. Es ist eine Geduldsprobe. Es kann auch einsam werden, wenn man alleine bis spät abends in der Bibliothek sitzt. Man muss sich konstant motivieren, sich in Diskussionen rechtfertigen. Es gibt viele Situationen, da denkt man: es geht nicht mehr. Aber dann beißt man durch und man merkt, wie sehr man daran wächst. Meine Philosophie: Alles was man jetzt machen kann, sollte man sofort machen. Und ich habe es noch nie bereut! #FinallyMAMA What a blast! This year's @unlockfair is over.
