In der Abgußsammlung steht ein Parthenon-Modell aus Gips. Der Guss der Einzelteile und die Farbfassung wurden etwa 1888 in Paris für einen Amerikanischen Milliardär hergestellt. Das Modell ging wenig später an das New Yorker Metropolitan Museum of Art, die es nach einigen Jahrzehnten aber aussortiert haben und an die Münchner Abgußsammlung abgaben. Bereits in Amerika wurde das Modell mehrfach notdürftig repariert und leider auch außenseitig komplett überfasst. Gegründet wurde es 1869 zu Studienzwecken. Das “vergleichende Sehen” ist eine wichtige Methode der Archäologie, um Werke zeitlich einordnen zu können und Unterschiede festzumachen. Ihr müsst dazu wissen, dass Skulpturen sich nicht nur über die Zeit in ihrer technischen Ausführung und der Gestaltung geändert haben, sondern dass viele Stücke auch mehrfach kopiert wurden. Daher gibt es mehrere Exemplare von ein und derselben Skulptur. Heute dient die Sammlung immer noch Studien- und Lehrzwecken, ist aber auch öffentliches Museum! After participating in Berlin, Amsterdam, Herne, Cologne and Hamburg I can honestly say it's always a pleasure and honor to be invited by it's founder and director @javierabarca.es. Over the years it became an annual family meeting with like-minded old and new friends. This year Munich is the place to be. In our little fictional scenario, the bride and groom are creative minds who love the aesthetics and symbolism of classic art but wanted their wedding to be anything but conventionally classical. They have no hesitation in choosing a venue that aligns with their passions, nor in making this place their own by doing what they like, or in being their authentic, edgy selves in a setting that typically encourages people to conform and be quiet.
